When you buy a top quality sofa, you'll want to keep it looking its best. Whether you've got a fabric or leather sofa, we can give you a few tips on how to keep it in tip top condition.

Leather         Fabric         Cushions         Fitting Loose Covers

Leather

Real leather is a natural product. It breathes, is warm and has individual attributes, such as shade, grain variation and natural markings, which all add to its charm and beauty. We stress these markings as features, not faults in leather. Although slight shading of colours can occur and is natural, we will endeavour to match all hides used as closely as we can.

The majority of our leathers should be cared for in the following ways;

  1. Apply tetrad hide polish sparingly, shaking bottle vigorously before use. Change the surface of the cloth frequently.
  2. Allow to dry and polish with a soft, clean dry cloth. If furniture is used on a daily basis the above treatment should be carried out on all contact surfaces approximately every 3 months. Excessive use of the polish will produce a shine.
  3. Try to maintain at least 30cm between your furniture and heating sources. Prolonged exposure to heat vents or radiators will cause your leather to dry out, crack or to become hard.
  4. Avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight. All materials will fade over time when placed in direct sunlight. Aniline leathers are especially sensitive to sunlight.
  5. Do not allow your pets onto your sofa. Pets have sharp claws which can scratch the leather. Their saliva is very harmful to leather as are their other body fluids and oils.

1. Buffalo hide

Antiqued water buffalo hide is robust and full of character. As leather is a natural by-product, variances in colour, texture and markings will occur. Such features will enhance the individuality, authenticity and overall appeal of each piece. They are not detrimental to the quality. We recommend using lukewarm gentle soapy water to clean surface and polishing using a soft, clean dry cloth.

2. Royal Line

This full grain leather is fully penetrated aniline dyed. It has a soft texture with an improved antisoiling compound which reduces the need for special surface protection finishes. As with most leathers, spillages should be absorbed immediately with a clean, dry cloth. If used every day we recommend using tetrad's hide polish every 3 months. Excessive use of the polish will produce a shine.

3. Vintage

Our Vintage hide is a full grain leather with a unique personality, soft as butter and perfect for today's casual lifestyle. The rich oils used in the retannage ensure that all the true characteristics are visible. If a spillage occurs remove immediately by dabbing with a clean dry cloth. Do not rub. Never use any type of leather cleaner on this hide. Scuff marks will easily disappear by using your thumb to rub the area with enough pressure to create some friction. If for any reason this finish becomes damaged we advise you to use our maintenance product, tetrad leather wax.

4. Old saddle

Old Saddle is a full grain, fully penetrated aniline dyed hide. Its appearance is enhanced by a hand finishing process resulting in a rich aged look that gives the leather added depth and colour. Old Saddle hides have a special protection wax finish. If for any reason this finish becomes damaged we advise you to use our maintenance product, tetrad leather wax.

5. Colonial

Following a unique tanning process, Colonial hide is over drummed to give a cracked aged look and then finished. The finishing process seals the hide ensuring that no more cracks appear. Variation in hide means that some areas will be more cracked than others adding authenticity. Only available in Tan. Dab any spillages with a clean dry cloth. Do not rub area.

6. Handspot

This hide as the name suggests is hand finished. It is full grain and aniline dyed throughout. Variances in colour and texture will occur and are regarded as features of natural hide. The handspot range has a waxed finish, and should be kept dry. Use tetrad's wax polish to preserve the antique look.

7. Pallona

This Leather has a light pigmented base coat with a transparent top surface. The leather is then embossed giving a natural grain appearance. For cleaning we recommend using lukewarm gentle soapy water to clean the surface and polishing using a soft, clean dry cloth.

8. Brown/Black tipped

All tetrad's tipped hides have a metallic burnished effect applied to the top surface, whilst being dyed through. This hide has been over burnished to give a supple, yet durable finish. Please clean as Pallona hide.

9. Millenium Matt Black

One of tetrad's softest hides with a slight degree of stretch. The finish is smooth and very warm to the touch. This hide, amongst all tetrad leathers will only improve over time. Please clean as Pallona hide.

Fabric

All fabrics, because of their texture, tend to harbour dust especially in their horizontal surfaces. It is advisable to vacuum or use a soft brush regularly as accumulated dirt will wear and dull the cover. Avoid exposing your furniture to prolonged sunlight, as even the strongest colours may fade under that condition.

1. Washable cotton loose cover

This fabric is 100% cotton pre-shrunk to fit. The covers can be washed in temperatures up to 600c and tumble dried. We recommend leaving covers slightly damp for ease when re-fitting. Although covers can be dry cleaned we advise machine washing, taking care to avoid washing powders or liquids that contain optical brighteners. Do not use bleach and be aware of the bleaching effect that Benzoyl Peroxide, found in most Acne cream, can have. Wash dark colours separately. Steam iron on reverse if necessary. Mop any spillages immediately with a clean white cloth. It is important to wash the complete cover at least twice a year.

2. Tailored fit chenille loose cover

We recommend brushing lightly or vacuuming each week to keep in good condition. Spilt liquid should be absorbed immediately with a clean white cloth or tissue. A slightly damp cloth may be used to revive the texture. The beauty of a tetrad tailored loose cover is that it gives the appearance of a fixed cover but is removable allowing a full cover clean. We recommend professional dry clean only for these products.

3. Fixed cover

As this cover cannot be removed for cleaning, we advise brushing and vacuuming to remove dust and dirt. Stained fabric should be dry cleaned, preferably with a powder cleaner which lifts the stain from the fabric and can be lightly brushed away. It is always advisable to try out a cleaner first on an unobtrusive area.

4. Microfibre

This fabric is highly durable and practical with a look of suede. It should be dry cleaned only. Tetrad's microfibre is also water repellant so any liquids sit on the surface and should be patted dry using a clean white cloth or tissue. Tests have revealed that marks caused by biro, butter and machine oil can be removed using cold water. Lipstick can be removed by using a small amount of white spirit. It is important not to rub the stain but dab gently.

Cushions

1. Seat cushions and interiors

Fabric seat cushions which are covered on both faces should be turned regularly to ensure keeping in top condition. Fibre and feather and down filled seat cushions should be shaken and plumped every day.

2. Scatter cushions

All scatter cushions should be plumped and turned (where possible) on a regular basis. Particular care should be taken with chenille scatters to avoid snagging ie; when wearing jewellery or high heeled shoes, as they are of a delicate nature.
